Question 1

How many days should I spend on safari in Masai Mara?

Accepted Answer

A stay of three to four nights is ideal for a comprehensive Masai Mara safari. This duration allows for multiple morning and afternoon game drives, opportunities to track different predator territories, potential river crossing viewings, and visits to adjoining private conservancies without rushing.

Question 2

What is the luggage weight limit on safari flights from Nairobi Wilson Airport?

Accepted Answer

Domestic bush flights to the Masai Mara typically enforce a strict baggage limit of 15 kilograms (33 pounds) per passenger, including hand luggage. Bags must be soft-sided duffles without rigid internal metal frames or wheels so they can fit into the aircraft's compact luggage pod.

Question 3

Are night game drives and bush walking safaris allowed everywhere in Masai Mara?

Accepted Answer

No. Night game drives and walking safaris are strictly prohibited inside the main Masai Mara National Reserve to protect wildlife. However, they are permitted and expertly guided within adjoining private conservancies such as Mara North, Olare Motorogi, and Naboisho.

Question 4

What emergency medical protocols exist in case of illness or injury on safari?

Accepted Answer

Reputable safari packages include comprehensive AMREF Flying Doctors emergency aeromedical evacuation cover. In the rare event of a critical medical issue, twin-engine emergency evacuation aircraft can land at the nearest bush airstrip to transport patients to premier hospitals in Nairobi within hours.
